Transnational Activist Futures: A Design Jam for Global Youth Empowerment
Design Jam Description:
All higher education students from any university are invited to join us for "Transnational Activist Futures: A Cross-Campus Design Jam for Global Youth Empowerment," a 3-week virtual, collaborative journey exploring activism across continents. This design jam brings together students from around the world for dynamic, 2-hour sessions. Using design thinking methods, participants will engage in creative collaboration, exchanging insights on grassroots activism in diverse contexts.
This unique opportunity allows students to connect, learn from each other, and co-create solutions to global challenges while exploring the nuances of activism within different cultural and geographic frameworks. All university students are welcome to participate in this exciting exploration of cross-border, youth-led activism.
Why Join the Global Classroom?
You will learn the basics of Design Thinking with a Design Justice lens, along with concrete processes and tools for collaborative idea generation. These skills are replicable and adaptable to any theme or community, and you can directly apply them in your school, work and life beyond the Global Classroom. The best way to learn these methods is by experiencing the process, which is what the Global Classroom offers.
Your voice will be heard in the Global Classroom. We ensure the process is collaborative and open, and your input matters a lot. We aim to create a brave and inclusive space, and have zero tolerance for any forms of hate or violence. All voices are welcome, all conversations are invited, provided we respect and take care of each other while engaging, even when we don't agree.
Dates & Times:
This iteration of the Global Classroom takes place every Friday for two hours from October 11th until October 25th, 2024. Each session begins at promptly 11am EST, 5pm CET / SAST.
How to Prepare:
Readings and other interesting media will be emailed to you upon registration. We highly recommend you review these resources before the first week of the Global Classroom.
Please join these events from a desktop or laptop computer if possible, as we will be using the digital whiteboard platform MURAL to work collaboratively, and it doesn’t work quite as well on tablets or mobile devices.
Please try to access these sessions on a stable internet connection. If you are having technical issues, reach out to organizers and we will assist you as much as possible.
Please join our sessions with an open mind, prepared to engage in sometimes challenging conversations. The Global Classroom has a zero tolerance for hate, violence or jeopardizing the safety of anyone participating.
