Cultural Dialogues - A Global Learning Experience 2025
Join the Global Classroom for Democracy Innovation at this two-part workshop series where we will explore interculturality through dialogue
Join the Global Classroom for Democracy Innovation at this two-part workshop series on March 7th and 28th, where we will explore interculturality through dialogue.
Participants will join from Stellenbosch University (South Africa), University of Toronto Scarborough (Canada) and University West (Sweden), and we welcome students from other universities as well. Please consult your institution to inquire about credit.
What to expect at Workshop 1 - March 7th, 2025:
Prior to the first workshop of the two-part series, all participants will gain free access to an internationally recognized certification process. The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assesses intercultural competence – the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural difference and commonalities. All participants are required to complete the assessment prior to workshop 1, where we will explore and unpack the results alongside an IDI qualified administrator.
Workshop 1 additionally offers a cultural awareness seminar, where participants will be invited to dialogue with one another about challenges and opportunities related to cultural difference. Between workshops 1 and 2, participants will be asked to undertake a personal reflective exercise, which will be introduced at the end of the first session.
Note: You must register for this workshop series by March 3rd, to allow enough time to complete the IDI assessment prior to the first session on March 7th. The deadline to complete the IDI assessment is March 5th.
What to expect at Workshop 2 - March 28th, 2025:
Workshop 2 is a Design Jam! We’ll use design thinking methods and tools to collaborate and further unpack the learnings of workshop 1.
Participants will leave this series having learned the basics of design thinking and how these frameworks can be applied in their own lives, studies or work environments. We’ll have lots of time in conversation with other students from around the world, and we’ll come away with an expanded sense of cultural perspective.
Finally, participants can add participation in the Global Classroom, as well as completion of the IDI to their CV, as these initiatives are of interest to future employers.
*Note: All registrants will recieve calendar invitations for both workshops (including a recurring zoom link) from globalclassroom4democracy@gmail.com. Please reach out to us if you have registered, but you haven't recieved the zoom link. Thanks!
Preparation & Commitments
This is not a webinar, the Global Classroom is a participatory space, and we expect everyone to turn on their cameras and share their thoughts during the session
We will be using Zoom to connect, please ensure the latest version of the app is installed, and ideally join on a laptop or desktop computer (rather than a mobile device)
Participants are required to complete the 15 minute IDI assessment before workshop 1, an email invitation will be sent to you after registration closes. The deadline to complete the IDI assessment is March 3rd.
Please bring blank paper and colouring materials to both sessions for individual note taking (other craft materials welcome)
If you have any questions, please email globalclassroom4democracy@gmail.com.
